Special Precautions Before Doing Tests
(Unless the physician asked for anything else)
2 Hours Post-Prandial Sugar/Glucose (2 hr PPS/G):
You must calculate two hours from the start of your meal which you should finish within 10 minutes & taking the regular medicine when needed. If you are visiting us please make sure to arrive at our premises 15 minutes earlier.
24 Hours Urine Collection:
After you wake up from sleep, go directly to the bathroom, record the time and start collecting urine for the next 24 hours. Urine should be kept refrigerated.
3 Successive Days Sputum:
You must collect the first morning sputum, after gargling with water several times and before eating. Saliva samples are not accepted. Each Sample should be delivered separately on the same day.
3 Successive Days Urine:
You should send the first voided morning urine and then send each sample separately on the same day of voiding.
You should take medications regularly for at least 5 days. Should avoid vomiting or diarrhoea is for 48 hours before sample taking. The sample is taken first thing in the morning before the morning dose of medication and the next sample is taken after 4 – 6 hours of taking the morning medical dose.
Asthma Medication (Theophyline):
Person should take medications regularly for at least 5 days. Should avoid vomiting or diarrhea is for 48 hours before sample taking. The sample is taken first thing in the morning before the morning dose of medication and the next sample is taken after 4 hours of taking the morning medical dose.
Person must be fasting for at least 12 hours; Person can take only water nothing else.
Catecholamine & VMA Tests:
Person must stop ingesting or swallowing any tea, coffee, biscuits, vanilla, plum, avocado, pineapple, eggplant, tomatoes or bananas for at least 48 hours before sample taking. Person Collects 24 hours urine same way as stated in 24 hours urine collection, in a special bottle.
Erythrocytic Sedimentation Rate (ESR):
Person should be fasting between 6 – 8 hours before sample taking.
Fasting Blood Sugar/Glucose (F.B.S/G):
Person must be fasting between 6 – 8 hours; Person can only take water nothing else.
Test must not be done after a blood transfusion or relapse unless passing 3 - 4 weeks at least.
Person must abstain sexual intercourse for at least 2 days before the test. Patient should avoid washing the vagina on the day of the test. Patient should not take antibiotics for 48 hours before sample taking.
Iron (Fe) in Blood:
Fating for 6 – 8 hours, sample should be taken before stating any treatment or blood transfusion. For females, sample should be taken next day after the end of menstrual cycle.
Second morning urine sample without making any physical effort
It should be the first urine in the morning (the best) with little fluid intake in the night before sample taking. If the result is negative suggests blood analysis work because it is more sensitive.
Prostate Gland Secretions or Culture:
Urine must not be voided for a time before the test. No antibiotic should be taken within 48 hours before the test.
No endoscopy or catheterization procedures for 10 days before the test.
To give a proper sample, ejaculation should be avoided for 4 consecutive days before giving the sample. It is better to take the sample inside the lab in a clean and sterile container. Home samples must reach the lab within 20 minutes.
Antibiotics should be stopped for 48 hours before sample taking. Person should be placed in a sterile cup; in case you send the sample, you must ensure that the sample must arrive at the lab within not more than 2 hours. Samples enclosed in baby diapers are not accepted.
Stool Test for Occult (Invisible) Blood:
Person should stop eating any meat, horseradish, laxatives, arthritis medication or any medications containing aspirin, vitamin C, cortisone or iron, for at least 48 hours before sample taking.
Urea Breath test:
Antibiotics and Antacids must be Stopped 5 days before testing. Person should be fasting for 8 hours.
Wash: hands and genitals with soap and water. Disinfect: urethral opening disinfecting solution and then it must be washed with water to remove any trace of the disinfectant. Void: the first drops of urine should be voided in the toilet. The rest of urine should be placed in the sterilized cup provided by the lab. Do not take antibiotic 24 hours before taking the sample. If the sample is provided from home, please ensure that it is delivered to our lab within 2 hours of voiding.
